About the Clive Jaycees Each Jaycee chapter has its own personality and the Clive Jaycees are definitely a group of fun, energetic young people. We're serious about helping the community and our members, but not without lots of fun on the way.
Social Activities The Clive Jaycees have various social events throughout the year such as Friday night socials, movie night, dinner club, golf outings, wine and beer tastings, book club and much more so that our members can get to know one another and form lasting friendships.
Helping the Community We participate in various community service events such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowl-A-Thon, JDRF Walk for a Cure, Hospice of Central Iowa and C.A.R.E. Walk along with many other charity walks/runs, delivering food to the homeless. We also run our own events for the community such as our youth sports competitions, Safe Halloween Party, Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets and Adopt-A-Highway. We also offer two scholarships to local high school students. A sampling of the organizations we support:
- Ronald McDonald House - American Heart Association - Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - Hospice of Central Iowa - Heart Connection - Amanda the Panda - Animal Rescue League - Muscular Dystrophy Association - Clive schools - Orchard Place - Prevent Blindness Iowa - Hope Ministries - City of Clive
With numerous projects each month, there is something for everyone's interests.
Individual Development Helping our members grow their personal and professional skills is the backbone of the Jaycees. We invite speakers to talk to our members on topics ranging from 401(k) planning and personal finance to stress management and wills/estate planning.
Business Development The Clive Jaycees believe in providing members the opportunity to learn new skills through running business and fundraising projects. Our chapter's main fundraiser of the year is running Clive After Five, a 16-week summer event. Held each Friday during the summer, Clive After Five features great bands in a social atmosphere. It s held in Linnan Park located just east of 86th and Alice Avenue in Clive from 5-7:30 p.m. The 2006 season will kick off May 5. One of the benefits of being a Clive Jaycee is that by working Clive After Five shift, you get in free. Clive After Five proceeds go to local community organizations. Each year our chapter members decide who receives the money earned at Clive After Five. So, by joining you can help one of your favorite charity organizations potentially receive an allocation.
Membership Meetings The Clive Jaycees hold two chapter membership meetings each month - the second and fourth Mondays of the month. Our meetings are held at the Dymond Safety Center (Police & Fire Station) at 8505 Harbach Blvd. just south of Linnan Park at 7 p.m. Meetings are followed by a social. The location of our socials can be found in the newsletter. We are a volunteer organization so you're never required to allocate a designated number of hours to the organization each year. Of course the more involved you are, the more you will get out of it.
Contrary to what you might think, you do not have to be a resident of Clive to be a member of our chapter. We have members in every metro Des Moines community.
How can the Jaycees help me? The Junior Chamber organization provides opportunities for you to develop and polish skills that will benefit both your personal and professional lives. These skills include: time management, fiscal responsibility, teamwork, delegation, public speaking, writing, organization, project management, negotiation and goal setting, to name a few.
Your involvement also gives you opportunities for community service, networking and life-long friendships. What you get out of the Jaycees is what you put into it.
